Nicole C

As a qualified counsellor with a specialist focus on neurodiversity and disability, I am dedicated to providing an inclusive, empathetic, and affirming therapeutic space for clients with a wide range of cognitive, developmental, and physical differences. My practice is rooted in a strengths-based, person-centred approach that recognises and values neurodivergent ways of thinking, feeling, and interacting with the world. I work with individuals who identify as autistic, ADHD, schizophrenic, or with learning disabilities and those living with chronic illness, sensory differences, or physical disabilities. I am committed to work collaboratively with clients to tailor sessions to their unique needs, including communication preferences, pacing, and sensory accommodations. I support my clients around a range of issues including anxiety, burnout, identity, self-advocacy, trauma, and navigating systems not designed with neurodiversity in mind. I work within a neurodiversity-affirming and anti-ableist framework.

Why the Spoony community matters to me

I understand how not "fitting in" into the majority of society can be anxiety provoking or destabilising. When my son was diagnosed with a severe permanent hearing impairment when he was just 2 years old, I had feelings of being overwhelmed, of anger, of guilt and feelings of uncertainty. The grief and sense of loss can be intense. This lead me to being passionate about advocating for a more inclusive, flexible, and compassionate society. I believe that difference is not a deficiency and want to empower people with neurodivergence or physical disabilities to have the opportunity to thrive on their own terms, not simply fitting into existing systems, but transforming those systems so everyone belongs.
