Julianna Colton
Since completing a Bachelor of Psychology in 2014, I have been dedicated to helping people navigate life’s challenges, especially those who feel overlooked or misunderstood. My journey began at Odyssey House McGrath Foundation, where I worked alongside individuals dealing with drug and alcohol dependance. I facilitated group therapy, provided individual counselling, and supported the development of new counsellors, all while fostering a compassionate and understanding environment. In 2018, I commenced at a dual role at Catholic Care Social Services, where I was working within the clinical services team, and as a therapeutic specialist for children and young people living in out-of-home care. In this role, I conducted assessments, created positive behaviour support plans, and supported both young people and their caregivers to build stable, nurturing environments. Every person I worked with taught me something new about resilience, strength, and the importance of tailored support. After relocating to Sydney in 2022, I began working with Recovery Station, supporting NDIS participants to achieve their goals through person-centered interventions, and positive behaviour support. This role has allowed me to continue my passion for working with neurodivergent clients and individuals with disabilities, to empower the person to thrive in their own way. During my career, I also had the opportunity to work as a contractor in private practice, where I further honed my skills in providing personalised care and support. In my practice, I worked with a wide range of clients, creating a safe and welcoming space to help them explore their challenges, discover their strengths, and build the skills they need to thrive. Recently, I established my own psychology practice, where I continue to work with a diverse range of clients. I create a safe and supportive space where individuals can explore their challenges, uncover their strengths, and feel empowered to take control of their journey. My goal is to help clients build the confidence and the skills they need to live fulfilling lives, all while feeling understood and supported through their journey.

Why the Spoony community matters to me
My lived experience has further deepened my empathy and passion for this work, as I understand the importance of having someone who listens, supports, and appreciates the unique qualities that each person brings. I understand the unique challenges that require not only a tailored approach but also a deep understanding of strengths, struggles, and perspectives. By supporting neurodivergent individuals, I aim to break down barriers, foster acceptance, and empower a person to live fulfilling lives that align with their unique needs and goals.
