Joanne L
I am warm, passionate and empathetic counsellor, committed to supporting individuals with their mental and emotional challenges whilst also helping clients gain a deeper and better understanding of themselves. Ultimately, I desire to improve the well-being of people's lives and am eager to contribute my skills and experience to the community. An important aspect in my therapeutic work is creating safe and supportive environments for clients as well as building strong and trusting relationships with them. Tailoring the counselling journey to the client by understanding the support they need and the goals they desire to achieve is important. I believe everyone is unique and have their own values so I work in accordance to who they are and how they like to move. There are multiple approaches I use including person-centred, CBT, SFT, narrative, strengths-based and psycho-education. The key in discerning when to use which is by getting to know my clients’ interests, strengths, understanding their past, present and future; gaining a holistic view of who they are, how they came to be, and who they would like to become. Once we discover the core issue, we work on what we can do to change or manage it. As a Christian, I vow to uphold the 7 Fruits of the Holy Spirit, which include values such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). These values coincide with my work as a therapist. In saying that, these are my values and I do not to push them upon others, especially my clients. I would love to work with you if these meet your requirements for a counsellor. I only ask that you come with a heart for change when working with me. I look forward to speaking with you soon.
